Infusion Therapy

TruYou is excited to bring the only doctor-led lifestyle and wellness infusion therapy to the north. The tailored therapy enables Northlanders to reap the benefits of all the goodness usually obtained though supplements in one sitting while bypassing the digestive system.

TruYou owner and nurse Chrissie Dawkins says infusion therapy is becoming an increasingly popular way to maintain healthy levels of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in the body, rather than taking daily tablets, and has the added benefit of total hydration with each treatment.

“I have wanted to add infusion therapy to our services because of my personal experience with my own health and my son’s health. Both having had cancer, I can see how this would have benefited us. Also, after eight years of living and treating people within the Northland area, I really felt there was a need for it for so many reasons, whether it be for health, sport, menopause, migraines…

“It’s going to give people another option for increased health and wellbeing, particularly when it can take a long time to see the doctor. Also, Northland is full of sport’s people and it is a good way to look after your body both pre and post any kind of exertion.”

Intravenous (IV) therapy has a long history that dates back to ancient times. It has evolved from an experimental treatment to become a regular part of healthcare to both improve and safe lives. In recent decades, “IV boutiques” or “IV drip bars” began popping up in some countries as part of a popular health and wellness trend.

Infusion therapy is a powerful route of administration as it allows full bioavailability of the vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Injecting vitamins, minerals and nutrients into the bloodstream, means they are delivered directly to the cells where they can do their job immediately.

After an initial complimentary consultation, every client has a pre-treatment blood test to ensure there are no contra-indications. Depending on the treatment, it can take from 30 minutes to one hour so could even be carried out on your lunchbreak, says Chrissie.

“We have a lovely room set up with comfy lay-z-boy chairs and you will have access to WIFI and the option of bringing headphones and watching a movie or doing some work or however best you want to utilise the time. Some people might just be really thankful of having some time to sit back and relax and chill out.”

The medical professional will insert a small plastic tube called a cannula into a vein, before the cannula is connected to a bag of fluid containing water glucose, electrolytes and/or other substances. The fluid is then administered into the patient’s bloodstream.

There are a range of infusion “cocktails” to select from for various purposes. All are approved by Dr Nadja Haub and administered by one of two trained nurses onsite at the TruYou clinic or for VIP or group bookings at locations such as the home, workplace or hotel, on request.

“For example, you might decide to start your hen’s party off with infusion therapy for an energy boost or inner glow,” explains Chrissie.

The human body cannot produce Vitamin C, so we must obtain this essential nutrient through external sources, such as diet and supplementation. While Vitamin C forms the base of all the infusions, a comprehensive range of vitamins, minerals and amino acids are on offer to be added at the client’s choice.

Cocktails have been customised for: rehydration, energy boost, migraines, pre and post-surgery, to aid sleep, immunity, performance and sports recovery, detox and hangovers, helping various medical conditions, or simply a “glow-up” to name a few.

Infusions are ideal for people with digestive conditions. Because the fluids bypass the gut, it avoids any digestive discomfort and nutrients are absorbed faster and more efficiently than if an oral supplement was taken. One infusion eliminates the need for multiple pills.

Clinical studies show benefits in burns patients, sepsis, improved recovery from a range of infections and pre-and post-surgery, and improved quality of life in cancer patients. Benefits in chronic fatigue, some auto-immune conditions, and to support amalgam removal and wound healing have also been observed.

Adds Chrissie: “We’re looking forward to offering this exciting new service to our clients further enabling them to look and feel their best.”
